One such study looked at melatonin's ability to treat brain cancer. The researchers combined melatonin with radiation for half of the participants. They gave the other half of the group radiation alone. After one year, all of the patients who used only radiation had died. But among those who took melatonin with the radiation, 23% were still alive.
In a similar study in Italy, researchers looked at melatonin's ability to treat lung cancer all by itself. The researchers in this study followed patients who did not respond to chemotherapy treatment. They gave half of the patients melatonin and the other half a placebo. One year later, none of those taking the placebo were still alive. But 26% of those taking melatonin were still alive.
Both of these studies suggest that melatonin raises your chances of surviving with cancer for one year by nearly 25%. Considering a high-dose melatonin treatment costs about $15 per month, there's little reason not to take the hormone if you have cancer.
You can buy melatonin at any health food store, grocery store, drugstore, or online. Most studies use 10-40 mg daily to treat cancer. It's important you work with an integrative physician to know just how much you need to take to treat cancer.
